What are AI meeting notes?
AI meeting notes are an automatically generated record of a meeting: a transcript plus a structured summary — typically the main points, decisions and action items — written by an AI model from what was said. Instead of typing while you talk, you get a draft to review afterwards.
The goal is the same as good manual minutes, just without the manual part: capture what matters so it’s searchable and shareable later.
How the technology works
Two steps. First, speech-to-text (automatic speech recognition) turns the audio into a transcript, usually with speaker labels. Then a language model reads the transcript and writes a summary — pulling out decisions, action items and key points, and discarding the filler.
Quality depends on clear audio and how well the model handles your language and any jargon. A quick review pass is always worth it, but it’s far faster than writing from scratch.
The privacy question
Most AI meeting-notes tools are cloud services: your audio and transcript are uploaded to a server to be processed and stored. For everyday meetings that may be fine — but for confidential, legal, medical or regulated conversations, sending the recording to a third party can be a real problem.
Ask three things of any tool: where is the audio processed, where is it stored, and is it used to train AI models? If the answers involve someone else’s servers, that’s a risk to weigh.
The local-first option
MeetIT generates AI meeting notes on your own device. It records, transcribes and writes the structured summary — decisions, action items and all — locally, so the audio and notes never leave your machine and no AI company trains on them. It works offline, and you own the files.
You get the convenience of AI notes without handing your meetings to a cloud you don’t control.
Frequently asked questions
Are AI meeting notes accurate?
They’re very good with clear audio, and a quick review catches the occasional misheard term or wrong attribution. The summary saves far more time than the review costs.
Are AI meeting notes private?
It depends on the tool. Most are cloud-based and upload your audio. MeetIT runs on-device by default, so recordings and notes stay on your machine and are never uploaded.
Do AI meeting notes replace a note-taker?
They replace the typing, not the judgement. You still review and tidy the draft — but you start from a structured summary instead of a blank page.
