Getting MeetIT up and running.

MeetIT is signed with an Apple-issued Developer ID and notarized by Apple. If your Mac still warns you on first launch, here’s exactly what it means — and how to clear it.

macOS first launch

“MeetIT can’t be opened because the developer cannot be verified”

Seeing this on an older Mac? Your copy is fine — this is macOS being cautious, not a problem with the app. Here’s why it happens and the two ways to fix it.

Why this happens

Every MeetIT release is code-signed with an Apple-issued Developer ID certificate and notarized by Apple — Apple itself scans each build for malware before we publish it. To recognize that, your Mac checks Apple’s current security data, which it receives through regular macOS security updates. On older macOS versions missing the latest updates (for example Sonoma without recent security patches), that check can come up short and macOS shows the cautious “developer cannot be verified” message — even though the app is correctly signed and notarized. Newer, fully-updated Macs open MeetIT with only the normal “downloaded from the Internet” prompt.

Two ways to fix it

Recommended

Update macOS

Updating refreshes Apple’s security data so your Mac recognizes MeetIT normally — and clears the message for good.

  1. 1 Open System Settings General Software Update.
  2. 2 Install every available update (security updates included), or upgrade to the latest macOS.
  3. 3 Re-download MeetIT and open it — you’ll now get only the normal first-launch prompt.
Works on any version

Open it anyway (one time)

Can’t update right now? Approve MeetIT manually. You only do this once per Mac.

  1. 1 Double-click MeetIT. When the warning appears, click Cancel — not “Move to Trash”.
  2. 2 Open System Settings Privacy & Security (Personvern og sikkerhet).
  3. 3 Scroll to the Security section. You’ll see “MeetIT was blocked…” with an Open Anyway (Åpne likevel) button — click it.
  4. 4 Authenticate with Touch ID or your password, then confirm Open. MeetIT launches and stays trusted from now on.

Is it safe?

Yes. MeetIT is notarized by Apple (scanned for malware on every release) and signed by Merit Solutions AS. It’s also local-first by design — your recordings, transcripts and notes stay on your machine.

Common questions

Why doesn’t my newer Mac show this warning? +

Fully-updated macOS has Apple’s current security data, so it recognizes MeetIT’s notarization immediately and shows only the standard “downloaded from the Internet” prompt. The stricter message appears only on older or un-updated systems.

I clicked “Move to Trash” by mistake — now what? +

No harm done. Download MeetIT again (or restore it from the Trash) and follow the “Open it anyway” steps above, clicking Cancel this time.

Windows shows a blue “Windows protected your PC” screen — is that the same thing? +

Same idea, different OS. Click “More info” → “Run anyway”. The Windows build is code-signed; SmartScreen simply needs to build reputation for new releases.

Where is my data stored? +

On your Mac. MeetIT is local-first: recordings, transcripts, summaries and search all live on your device. Cloud features (sync, hosted AI) are opt-in and clearly separate.

Still stuck? +
